{"id":255412,"date":"2026-01-28T06:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T06:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/255412\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T06:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T06:08:09","slug":"nz-post-mistakenly-included-rural-waikato-communitys-only-post-shop-on-closure-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/255412\/","title":{"rendered":"NZ Post mistakenly included rural Waikato community&#8217;s only post shop on closure list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/4NT3LAQ_copyright_image_155104.jpeg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"609\" alt=\"NZ Post\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nPhoto: RNZ \/ Richard Tindiller\n<\/p>\n<p>A rural Waikato community will not be losing its only post shop after NZ Post admitted it mistakenly included it on the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/business\/585101\/nz-post-to-close-more-than-140-counters-across-the-country\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">almost 150 sites earmarked to close<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the state-owned company has indicated the service could be on the chopping block in future.<\/p>\n<p>This week, NZ Post confirmed it would be removing 142 service counters in partnering convenience stores, pharmacies and libraries around New Zealand by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>A total 567 post shops would remain open nationwide and rural post shops would not be affected.<\/p>\n<p>The Te Kauwhata site was initially listed for closure, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/national\/585188\/waikato-business-owner-mystified-by-nz-post-closure-decision\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sparking bewilderment<\/a> from the local convenience store owner who runs the service.<\/p>\n<p>For residents, it would have meant the nearest postal store was more than 15 kilometres away.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, NZ Post confirmed the changes do not apply to the Te Kauwhata service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their name appeared on our website in error, and we&#8217;ve now corrected this and spoken with them by phone.
