Thankfully, the company now says it’s a temporary situation that’ll return to normal soon.

OnePlus shared a statement with the folks at Android Authority, confirming the company’s Anti-Rollback Protection mechanisms are a stopgap solution that won’t be around forever. ARP was added to various OnePlus devices, including the OnePlus 13, 13T, and 15, and according to the company, impacts both China-exclusive ColorOS devices and global variants running OxygenOS. The company’s full statement is below:

To further strengthen device security, we’ve temporarily paused the ability to downgrade from 16.0.2.50x software builds to older builds. We will be restoring the ability to downgrade software builds in our next routine software update, but in the meantime customers looking to downgrade their build can contact OnePlus after sales channels directly.

It’s not exactly clear what caused OnePlus to make this push to “strengthen device security” — especially since this was a temporary move — and today’s announcement doesn’t include any additional explanations. Regardless, it’s good news for the custom ROM community. It’s not exactly clear when those “routine software updates” will roll out, but assuming that includes typical security patches, affected users should only need to wait a month or two before the ability to downgrade your OS version returns.

More on OnePlus:

FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. More.

Last week, OnePlus found itself drawing the ire of enthusiasts looking to keep the custom ROM dream alive…

[16
342,111,139,69,145
0":"post-255531","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mobile","8":"tag-mobile","9":"tag-new-zealand","10":"tag-newzealand","11":"tag-nz","12":"tag-technology
["GET
