Using the same Lotto numbers for years has finally paid off for an Otago family who are $5.3 million richer after a Powerball jackpot win.<\/p>\n
The family uses the same mixture of birthdays and random numbers to buy a $6 ticket twice a week, Lotto NZ said.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019ve played the same ticket for years, said the mum who found out about the win the night last week’s draw.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy husband was out, and I just happened to check our ticket going to bed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe draw played and I saw it was a winner, so I took a screenshot and closed the app.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess I didn\u2019t really register what was happening, I kept staring at the screenshot and the large number at the top, not quite believing what I was seeing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tried to log back in and check again, but MyLotto had closed for the night.\u201d<\/p>\n
The woman waited for her husband to get back and showed him the screenshot.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe didn\u2019t believe me at all, he said \u2018nah, that can\u2019t be real \u2013 I\u2019m off for a shower,\u2019 and off he went!\u201d<\/p>\n
The family had to wait until MyLotto reopened the next morning to confirm the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs soon as MyLotto opened we logged in to check\u2026 and then we checked again, and again, and again,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt absolutely unreal. It\u2019s a life\u2011changing moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Their next step was to tell their children the good news, so they invited them round for dinner.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sat them down and said, \u2018we have some news to share with you.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cMy plan was to replay the draw on my phone so they could see the ticket, but before I could, my husband blurted out \u2018we\u2019ve won 5.3 million dollars!\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the kids shouted, \u2018I knew it!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The family are planning to take some time to think about their future before making any decisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to put the majority of in a term deposit for now while we think about what we\u2019d like to do \u2013 but we will set aside a small amount for a little splurge,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
