{"id":258506,"date":"2026-01-30T01:01:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/258506\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T01:01:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:01:10","slug":"renowned-auckland-film-studios-sold-for-undisclosed-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/258506\/","title":{"rendered":"Renowned Auckland Film Studios sold for undisclosed price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">Auckland Council has sold its renowned Auckland Film Studios in what&#8217;s been described by the Mayor as &#8220;a win&#8221; for the region&#8217;s screen production industry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Auckland Film Studios has been the base for many New Zealand and international productions including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2020\/03\/16\/nz-film-industry-left-in-lurch-as-film-productions-around-country-including-lord-of-the-rings-halt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lord of the Rings<\/a> &#8211; The Rings of Power, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2025\/04\/04\/huntly-mines-itself-a-hollywood-cameo-in-minecraft-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">A Minecraft Movie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2026\/01\/30\/thats-home-to-me-jason-momoa-on-filming-new-movie-in-nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Wrecking Crew<\/a>, Predator \u2013 Badlands, and most recently Brad Pitt&#8217;s Heart of the Beast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The company was being sold to Auckland Film Studios Limited \u2014 part of the Xytech Group \u2014 for a undisclosed price. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The council confirmed the sale would also protect the New Zealand Government&#8217;s $30 million contribution towards two new sound stages, which would will come back to the council to be held in a fund and reinvested in further new Auckland screen infrastructure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said the sale was &#8220;a win for our region\u2019s outstanding screen production industry&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;I\u2019ve some experience here developing movie theatres and film studios, I know the industry and this is a good move that also delivers for ratepayers.
