{"id":259066,"date":"2026-01-30T08:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T08:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/259066\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T08:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T08:58:13","slug":"anomaly-avoids-overly-formal-interiors-in-this-co-working-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/259066\/","title":{"rendered":"Anomaly avoids &#8220;overly formal&#8221; interiors in this co-working space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local architecture studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/anomaly\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anomaly<\/a> has designed the Apex <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/co-working\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">co-working<\/a> space with textured materials including leather, timber and a bespoke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/rammed-earth\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rammed-earth<\/a> welcome desk.<\/p>\n<p>Set within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/bennetts-associates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bennetts Associates<\/a>-designed concrete <a href=\"https:\/\/tribeca.london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tribecca<\/a> development in London&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/kings-cross\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">King&#8217;s Cross<\/a> area, Apex is a waterfront co-working space that was interior designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/anomaly.london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anomaly<\/a> to eschew harsh and unwelcoming office environments.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2291388 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/apex-co-working-space-anomaly-london-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Apex co-working space by Anomaly\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Apex is a co-working space in the King&#8217;s Cross Tribecca development<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Introducing and playing with a variety of textures that are tactile and soft created a welcome contrast to the firmness and solidity of the basebuild architecture of Apex,&#8221; said Anomaly head of interior design Lucy Hillyer-Riley.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The aim was to create a space that feels just as good once it&#8217;s been properly used and occupied as it does on day one,&#8221; she told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2291394 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/apex-co-working-space-anomaly-london-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Rammed-earth welcome desk by Anomaly and Clayworks\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Visitors are greeted by a bespoke rammed-earth welcome desk<\/p>\n<p>When entering the workspace, visitors are greeted by a rectilinear welcome desk made from dusty pink, brown and orangey slabs of low-carbon rammed earth, designed in collaboration with British natural finishes specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/clayworks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clayworks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hillyer-Riley explained that the team originally planned to salvage earthwork from the site excavation, but were met with constraints during the project.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2291389 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/apex-co-working-space-anomaly-london-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_23-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Timber-clad staircase\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Timber-clad stairs lead to a similarly textured cafe<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we love about rammed earth is that you can read how it&#8217;s made,&#8221; said the designer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The layers, the texture, the slight imperfections. It is built up using natural pigments and aggregates, compacted to create a solid, monolithic form,&#8221; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No two rammed-earth elements could ever be the same, which felt right for a building that&#8217;s meant to have its own identity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2291428 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/apex-co-working-space-anomaly-london-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_24-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe at Apex\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Wishbone chairs were paired with marble-topped tables<\/p>\n<p>Timber-clad stairs lead to a similarly textured cafe dressed in chocolatey brown hues, which overlooks the canal.<\/p>\n<p>Wishbone chairs were paired with marble-topped tables, while terrazzo grey flooring offers a cooler antidote to the panelled wood behind the long coffee counter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2291430 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/apex-co-working-space-anomaly-london-interior-design_dezeen_2364_col_15-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Floor-to-ceiling gauzy curtains \" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Other work and meeting spaces were designed with a similarly homely feel<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The palette is tonal, soft and embracing, drawing on the canal frontage and making the most of daylight and long sight-lines,&#8221; said Hillyer-Riley.<\/p>\n<p>Other work and meeting spaces were designed with a similarly homely feel.
