According to YouTube, more than 70% of watch time for the platform\u2019s Top 100 African artists now comes from outside Africa, illustrating the genre\u2019s growing international audience.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir00000a3b6sprjylif5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYouTube is part of how fans everywhere discovered these artists in the early days,\u201d said Tuma Basa, YouTube\u2019s director of music culture. \u201cA lot of the discovery happens organically. It\u2019s borderless.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir00000b3b6sgh8r8dt8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            That reach is increasingly reflected in touring patterns and global collaborations. African artists are selling out arenas across Europe and North America, while international acts are performing to large audiences on the continent.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir00000c3b6smxn2ppwv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Basa cited Nigerian star Rema\u2019s performance in India in 2024 as a turning point in how global the audience has become.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir01000d3b6s7mkn9om5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cFans didn\u2019t wait for radio or a traditional gatekeeper to tell them who to listen to,\u201d he said. \u201cThey found the music themselves.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir01000f3b6s3wqv0ult@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Other digital platforms reflect similar trends. In 2025, Burna Boy was the most streamed African artist on Spotify, but in January of 2026 Wizkid surpassed those streams becoming the first African to hit 10 billion streams, underscoring Afrobeats\u2019 global pull. Nigerian artist <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/2Xr1dTzJee307rmrkt8c0g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CKay\u2019s song \u201cLove Nwantiti\u201d<\/a> has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, placing it among the most consumed African tracks ever. On Apple Music, streams of African music as a whole have grown four times faster than the overall platform streams, with Wizkid again surpassing 10 billion global streams.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir01000g3b6s56g9p2zm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Industry leaders point to the African diaspora as a key driver of that global reach, helping translate regional sounds to international audiences while maintaining cultural context.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmkzvir01000h3b6svuqqmd7f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n \u201cWhen you look at previous Pamoja events, the impact didn\u2019t come from a script,\u201d she said. \u201cIt came from people feeling seen and represented.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p said YouTube will continue to function as a global equalizer, allowing artists to reach international audiences without relying on traditional industry gatekeepers.\n    <\/p>\n<p
