More street art in action will soon be seen in South Dunedin.<\/p>\n
The latest artwork, which is part of an ongoing project, will be seen in King Edward St and Carey Ave.<\/p>\n
South Dunedin Street Art Trail trust volunteer Rachel Elder said people should be prepared for a “performance” by artist Koryu Aoshima, who is scheduled to begin on Monday.<\/p>\n
“This is a wonderful performance and slow revealing of an artwork as it evolves over a week. [It is] one which draws the viewer in over the process of a week.<\/p>\n
“There are over 12,000 traffic movements a day down King Edward St meaning over 24,000 will be viewing the Carey Ave wall Koryu Aoshima is doing over a week \u2014 this is top-end performance art that is free for everyone to see.<\/p>\n
“As people see the pieces unfold they become an active audience and feel a sense of participation and ownership of the pieces as they unfold.”<\/p>\n
It comes after the\u00a0Otago Daily Times\u00a0revealed work has begun on a new addition to the South Dunedin Street Art Trail \u2014 a mural by artist Guy Howard-Smith, covering two walls of the Stevenson and Williams\u2019 building near the intersection of Prince Albert Rd and Bellona St.<\/p>\n
Mrs Elder said it was not just the art, but the way it connected people.<\/p>\n
“We love it because it\u2019s so cool for everyone. And then when the performance is finished, they keep it. It stays there.”<\/p>\n
It is all part of Ebb and Flow, a street art festival organised by the trust featuring large-scale, live mural painting and street art workshops.<\/p>\n
“The murals will celebrate the people, land and stories that make our community unique.”<\/p>\n
