\n\tWhile the White House can try to pretend that Bruce Springsteen<\/a>\u2018s anti-ICE<\/a> song, \u201cStreets of Minneapolis\u201d<\/a> \u2014 which denounces the killing of unarmed U.S. citizens, including Ren\u00e9e Good, and federal tyranny \u2014 is \u201cirrelevant<\/a>,\u201d Springsteen, the people of Minneapolis<\/a>, and U.S. citizens across the country loudly disagree.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Friday afternoon, a benefit concert organized by Rage Against the Machine<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Tom Morello<\/a>, billed as \u201cA Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota!\u201d, kicked off at Minneapolis\u2019 famed First Avenue club. The show was brought together to raise money for the families of Good and Alex Pretti, who were both fatally shot by ICE agents.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpringsteen appeared onstage as the surprise guest and delivered the first live performance of the protest song to cheers in the crowd. Morello then joined him for a rendition of his \u201cGrapes of Wrath\u201d-themed \u201cThe Ghost of Tom Joad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore playing \u201cStreets of Minneapolis,\u201d Springsteen said, \u201cI wrote this song and I recorded it the next day, and I sent it to Tom Morello.\u201d Springsteen said he told Morello, \u201cI think it\u2019s kinda soapboxy,\u201d to which the guitarist replied, \u201cBruce, nuance is wonderful, but sometimes you have to kick them in the teeth.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo this is for the people of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the people of our good country, the United States of America,\u201d said Springsteen before diving into the song. As he sang, \u201cIn our chants of \u2018ICE out now\u2019\/Our city\u2019s heart and soul persists\/Through broken glass and bloody tears\/On the streets of Minneapolis,\u201d the packed audience raised their fists in the air and shouted: \u201cICE Out now!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen announcing the concert earlier this week, Morello wrote in a statement<\/a>: \u201cIf it looks like fascism, sounds like fascism, acts like fascism, dresses like fascism, talks like fascism, kills like fascism and lies like fascism, boys & girls it\u2019s f*cking fascism. It\u2019s here, it\u2019s now, it\u2019s in my city, it\u2019s in your city and it must be resisted, protested, defended against, stood up to, exposed, ousted, overthrown and driven out. By you and by me. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are coming to Minneapolis where the people have heroically stood up against ICE, stood up against Trump, stood up against this terrible rising tide of state terror,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhere the people have stood up for their neighbors and themselves, for democracy and justice. Ain\u2019t nobody coming to save us except us and it\u2019s now or never.\u201d<\/p>\n
