The Joe Dante classic that\u2019s not Gremlins is getting a TV reimagining courtesy of Peacock. The full trailer for The \u2018Burbs dropped nearly a month ago and the streamer continues the promotion just before its premiere. This time, the show released a Super Bowl TV spot that has Dateline\u2018s iconic crime show host, Keith Morrison, do what he does best. There\u2019s even kind of a reference to Bill Hader\u2019s impression as Morrison buckles down with a snack for the show. The eight episodes will be available to watch on Peacock as of Sunday,\u00a0February 8.<\/p>\n

Meet the neighbors<\/p>\n

Keke Palmer<\/a> (Nope) stars in and executive produces the series and is joined in the cast by Jack Whitehall\u00a0(Jungle Cruise), Julia Duffy (Newhart), Paula Pell (Girls5eva), Mark Proksch (What We Do In The Shadows), Kapil Talwalkar (Zoey\u2019s Extraordinary Playlist), Haley Joel Osment (Tusk), RJ Cyler (The Harder They Fall), Justin Kirk (Weeds), Kyrie McAlpin (Cheaper by the Dozen), Danielle Kennedy (Man on the Inside), and Randy Oglesby (For All Mankind).<\/p>\n

Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale,\u00a0Dead to Me) is writing and executive producing the series.\u00a0Set in present-day suburbia,\u00a0The \u2018Burbs\u00a0follows a young couple, with Palmer playing the wife, returning to the husband\u2019s (Whitehall) childhood home. Their world is upended when new neighbors move in next door, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.<\/p>\n

In addition to Palmer and Hughey, executive producers on the show include Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment, Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door, and Rachel Shukert. Dana Olsen, the writer of the 1989 film, Amy Aniobi, Zora Bikangaga, and Neil Reynolds serve as co-executive producers. Nzingha Stewart (Daisy Jones & The Six) directed the first episode and is another executive producer. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the series.<\/p>\n

Filming took place in Los Angeles at the same location as the original film, the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood.<\/p>\n

The original\u00a0The \u2018Burbs\u00a0was directed by Joe Dante. When asked for his reaction to the TV series announcement, Dante\u00a0said<\/a>, \u201cI think my actual comment was, \u2018How are they going to make a whole TV series out of that story?\u2019 As opposed to, \u2018I want to be the one to do it. \u2019Good luck to them. It\u2019s kind a one-off story\u2026It\u2019s always nice when things have a shelf life.\u201c<\/p>\n
