Police say it was \u2018\u2018very lucky\u2019\u2019 no one was injured after a trailer swung into the side of a ute and flung building materials across a Dunedin motorway.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred on the Caversham Bypass about 2.30pm yesterday.<\/p>\n
A 21-year-old man was driving his work vehicle to the speed limit when his trailer began swaying side-to-side.<\/p>\n
The building materials were tied down but the movement caused them to fall off the trailer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The trailer then \u2018\u2018fishtailed and that has jack-knifed the ute\u2019\u2019, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018It’s very lucky nobody else was injured or caught up in the loss of the materials,” he said.<\/p>\n
There was a \u2018\u2018reasonable amount\u2019\u2019 of debris on the road, which needed to be removed,<\/p>\n
He urged people to ensure their vehicles were properly weight-rated and trailers braked.<\/p>\n
