From Bad Bunny<\/a> and Billie Eilish to Olivia Dean and Justin Bieber, there was no shortage of artists speaking out against the ICE <\/a>horrors unfolding in the U.S. during Sunday night\u2019s 68th Grammy Awards<\/a>. Not among them, however, was Jelly Roll, who won a Grammy in the new category Best Contemporary Country Album and used his speech to talk at length about Jesus. \u201cThere was a time in my life when I was broken. That\u2019s why I wrote this album,\u201d he said onstage. \u201cI was a horrible human.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI believed that music had the power to change my life and God had the power to change my life,\u201d Jelly Roll went on. \u201cJesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party.\u201d<\/p>\n Jelly Roll just had an all-time Grammy acceptance speech pic.twitter.com\/A3pYzleR4a<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Bussin’ With The Boys (@BussinWTB) February 2, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n That\u2019s all fine and good (?), except that, after accepting his award, Jelly Roll was asked if he wanted to comment on \u201cwhat\u2019s going on in the country right now,\u201d and he responded, \u201cNot really.\u201d He elaborated: \u201cI can tell you that people shouldn\u2019t care to hear my opinion.\u201d He added, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m a dumb redneck. Like, I haven\u2019t watched enough \u2026 I\u2019m so disconnected from what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n Jelly Roll declines to comment on ICE amid growing outcry. pic.twitter.com\/Gbx6jmA5bl<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Pop Crave (@PopCrave) February 2, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n The 41-year-old went on to explain that he grew up in a home that was \u201cinsane pandemonium\u201d where he was often focused on finding ways to survive, as opposed to \u201cwhat\u2019s happening in rural politics.\u201d He said, \u201cI didn\u2019t even know politics were fucking real until I was in my mid-20s in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n But Jelly Roll swears he\u2019s going to tell everybody what he has to say about the political turmoil \u201cin the most loud and clear way I\u2019ve ever spoke [sic] in my life\u201d \u2014 just next week. In the meantime, his choice not to address what\u2019s going on has earned him lots of backlash<\/a> online.
