{"id":265311,"date":"2026-02-03T09:51:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T09:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/265311\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T09:51:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T09:51:07","slug":"construction-begins-on-new-mri-suite-at-kootenay-boundary-regional-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/265311\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction begins on new MRI suite at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MRI suite work begins<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" alt=\"A new MRI suite will replace the current mobile MRI and be located in an integrated space within the hospital.\" class=\"large_overlay\" limg=\"\/content\/2026\/2\/large\/trail_-_kbrh_emergency_p4262005.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/trail_-_kbrh_emergency_p4262005.jpg\" style=\"height:404px; width:640px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo: File<\/p>\n<p>A new MRI suite will replace the current mobile MRI and be located in an integrated space within the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Medical imaging and diagnostic services in the Kootenay Boundary region took a step forward today as construction of a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite began at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.<\/p>\n<p>The new MRI suite will replace the current mobile MRI and be located in an integrated space within the hospital, part of the facility\u2019s role as a regional oncology centre, level three trauma referral centre and regional stroke centre.<\/p>\n<p>Expected to be finished in early 2028, the centre will be a permanent, more accessible MRI suite inside the hospital, including a new 1.5T MRI scanner.<\/p>\n<p>The expanded MRI suite and new MRI scanner will \u201csignificantly increase diagnostic capacity at KBRH,\u201d noted a release from Interior Health this afternoon, raising annual MRI volumes from about 4,400 to as many as 7,000 scans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upgraded technology will improve imaging accuracy and efficiency, with faster scan times and smoother workflow,\u201d the IH statement read.<\/p>\n<p>For people in the region, having diagnostic services close to home makes a real difference, said Steve Morissette, MLA for Kootenay-Monashee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new MRI suite at KBRH means fewer long trips, faster answers, and better care for families throughout the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The additional space and equipment will also enable more complex exams to be performed on site, reducing the need for referrals to larger centres and helping patients receive timely medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Following a bidding process, Interior Health selected Ledcor Construction Ltd. for the KBRH MRI suite expansion project, which began today.
