Singer Jelly Roll explained Sunday after the Grammy Awards<\/a> that he\u2019s a \u201cdumb redneck\u201d and people shouldn\u2019t care about his opinion when it comes to politics despite declaring \u201cJesus is for everybody\u201d during his acceptance speech earlier in the night.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople shouldn\u2019t care to hear my opinion, man. I\u2019m a dumb redneck. I haven\u2019t watched enough,\u201d the country singer, whose name is Jason DeFord, told reporters after the ceremony when a Rolling Stone reporter asked<\/a> if he wanted to speak on the state of the country. \u201cI didn\u2019t have a phone for 18 months. I\u2019ve had one for four months and don\u2019t have social media. I hate to be the artist that\u2019s that aloof, I\u2019m just so disconnected from what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician, who won three Grammys on Sunday night, including one for his album \u201cBeautifully Broken,\u201d did get a bit political during one<\/a> of his acceptance speeches, where he talked about Jesus. <\/p>\n

\u201cJesus is for everybody,\u201d he said. \u201cJesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll spent most of his teens and early 20s in jail for charges including aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell<\/a>. While in jail, he earned his GED at 23 years old. He later turned to the Christian faith a few years ago when his daughter was interested in the religion. <\/p>\n

On Sunday night, Jelly Roll explained that his upbringing has led to his apolitical nature. <\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up in a house of like insane pandemonium,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cI didn\u2019t even know politics were fucking real until I was in my mid-20s in jail. When you grow up in a drug addict household, you think we have, like, common calls about what\u2019s happening in world politics? We\u2019re just trying to find a way to survive, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite that, Jelly Roll said he has \u201ca lot to say about it\u201d and he plans to do so next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody\u2019s going to hear exactly what I have to say about it in the most loud and clear way I\u2019ve ever spoke in my life,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I look forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll\u2019s reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n

Several artists made political statements in their acceptance speeches on Sunday night, including Billie Eilish, who said while accepting the award for Song of the Year, \u201cno one is illegal on stolen land,\u201d and then \u201cFuck ICE.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny, who won the top award of the night for Album of the Year, said \u201cICE out\u201d <\/a>during his acceptance speech before telling the crowd that immigrants aren\u2019t \u201csavage,\u201d \u201canimals,\u201d or \u201caliens.\u201d<\/p>\n
