The performance by singer Alex Warren at the 2026 Grammy Awards faced significant challenges due to technical difficulties that disrupted his debut. The YouTuber-turned-artist was nominated for the Best New Artist award but experienced major issues during his live performance.

Technical Issues Impacting Performance

From the onset, Warren’s performance of his hit song “Ordinary” was overshadowed by earpiece malfunctions. The technical issues were apparent when an initial faint hissing noise polluted the broadcast audio, complicating his attempt to deliver a seamless performance. As the performance progressed, this noise caused him discomfort and confusion.

A Response to Frustration

Alex Warren addressed the mishap on Instagram, sharing a video that revealed just how disorienting the audio problems were. In the clip, viewers could hear an overlapping mix of his song, a result of the delayed playback he was grappling with live on stage. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “This would only happen to me…”

On-Stage Struggles

Warren showed visible frustration during his performance.

He attempted to adjust his in-ear monitor pack but struggled to hear his voice properly.

During one moment, he fell out of sync with the backing track.

At one point, he even removed one of his in-ear monitors due to frustration.

The audience could see Warren’s struggles as his typically strong voice faltered while he worked to correct the ongoing audio issues. This added significant pressure on him during an already high-stakes performance.

Outcomes and Recognition

Unfortunately, Warren’s performance was not only marred by technical issues but he also lost the Best New Artist award to UK vocalist Olivia Dean. Dean’s recognition followed a breakout year, marked by her headlining performance at the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival and the release of her album “The Art of Loving.”
