The GSMA IMEI database has recently added listings for the model numbers for the Sony Xperia 1 VIII and the mid-range Xperia 10 VIII. The filings confirm that development is well underway and provide a roadmap of where these devices will eventually land.

The leaked data shows two distinct sets of codes. The flagship Xperia 1 VIII has the “XQ-GE” prefix, while the more affordable Xperia 10 VIII uses “XQ-GH.” These certifications suggest a wide release plan that includes Japan, Europe, and a number of other Asian markets.

What the new Xperia IMEI listings tell us about Sony’s upcoming launches

The specific suffixes in the database show us exactly how Sony plans to distribute its products. In Japan, devices that end in “44” are usually SIM-free models. On the other hand, those that end in “54” are going to Europe. Meanwhile, the “74” version usually covers more Asian areas outside of Japan.

However, there is a notable absence in the paperwork. Just like in previous years, there are no indicators of a North American release. Unfortunately for Xperia fans, Sony hasn’t launched a flagship in the United States since 2023. The latest leaks suggest that the US public will likely have to resort to importing the devices if they want to get their hands on the new hardware.

What to expect

Sony is known for its secretive nature regarding hardware specs. Still, the industry standard for 2026 gives us a very good idea of what to expect. The Xperia 1 VIII will likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This would put Sony’s flagship on equal footing with other heavy hitters like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the OnePlus 15.

The Xperia 10 VIII, on the other hand, is likely to stay a reliable mid-range phone. It will probably keep using a Snapdragon 6 series processor, which focuses on battery life and efficiency instead of raw power.

Sony hasn’t said anything official yet, but the change from internal “PM codes” to official IMEI listings makes it seem like a launch could happen soon.

[16
342,111,139,69,6361,152025,152026,145
0":"post-267109","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mobile","8":"tag-mobile","9":"tag-new-zealand","10":"tag-newzealand","11":"tag-nz","12":"tag-sony","13":"tag-sony-xperia-1-viii","14":"tag-sony-xperia-10-viii","15":"tag-technology
["GET
