After nearly a year of back-and-forth bidding, A24 has emerged as the new owner of Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Per Deadline<\/a>, the\u00a0Civil War\u00a0studio will make good on its plans to expand the slasher series with two new projects. First on deck is a TV series from\u00a0The Long Walk\u00a0writer JT Mollner, actor Glen Powell, and producer Roy Lee<\/a>. (Powell\u2019s currently just on hand to produce, possibly nixing any dreams of seeing him fight or die against Leatherface.) A new movie is also in early development by the show\u2019s producing team, but Mollner\u2019s reportedly not involved with it. At the time of writing, it\u2019s also unknown if the movie will wind up on Netflix, as was once the case.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Mollner called\u00a0Texas Chainsaw \u201ca perfect film\u201d and said he saw a TV show as \u201ca fresh way into this world, as well as a way to honor the existing folklore. I can\u2019t imagine better partners for this approach than A24. This is truly an honor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Powell similarly called the 1974 original<\/a> one of his favorite films and \u201cone of the definitive movies of my home state \u2026 With a marquee home in A24 and [with] visionary filmmaker JT Mollner, alongside our top-shelf producing partners, I couldn\u2019t have dreamed of a better team for such a dream property.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Texas Chainsaw Massacre\u2019s <\/a>rights were first up for grabs, horror filmmakers like Jordan Peele, Taylor Sheridan, and Oz Perkins were reportedly interested in getting onboard and reviving it with their own spin. Film-wise, it\u2019s been MIA since Netflix\u2019s (apparently bad<\/a>) 2022 reboot, and it\u2019s the latest slasher franchise to make the jump to television after Child\u2019s Play<\/a>, Alien<\/a>, and\u00a0Friday the 13th<\/a>. We\u2019ll have more on the Texas\u00a0show and eventual film as they develop.<\/p>\n
