\n\tSam Claflin<\/a> revealed on Fearne Cotton\u2019s \u201cHappy Place\u201d\u00a0podcast<\/a> (via The Independent<\/a>) that his body dysmorphia was exacerbated by his Hollywood acting roles, which often required him to appear shirtless on screen. Claflin is best known for playing Finnick Odair in \u201cThe Hunger Games<\/a>\u201d franchise, starting with \u201cCatching Fire.\u201d He made his film debut in \u201cPirates of the Caribbean<\/a>: On Stranger Tides.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA lot of the roles I played earlier on in my career\u2026 I had a topless scene in one of my first movies, but it wasn\u2019t in the script and I got told a week before they were going to [take] my top off,\u201d Claflin said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Shit, I haven\u2019t been working out, what am I going to do?\u2019 This is my first introduction to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tClaflin said earlier in the chat, \u201cI\u2019m incredibly insecure. I just went to a screening of a film I was in and everyone immediately afterwards [asked], \u2018How was it?\u2019 And [I was like,] \u2018I hated it.\u2019 It\u2019s my face I don\u2019t like [it]\u2019. When I was cast in \u2018Pirates,\u2019 I thought: \u2018What on earth am I doing here?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor previously told The Telegraph in 2025 that \u201cthere\u2019s this Hollywood assumption that it\u2019s the men with the six packs who sell the movie. So there was a pressure that was what I needed to look like. As a result, I developed a form of body dysmorphia. It wasn\u2019t quite an eating disorder, and I\u2019m not blaming anyone but myself, but it was definitely because of the industry I\u2019m in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tExpanding on the topic with Cotton on the recent podcast episode, Claflin said, \u201cI\u2019ve been massively affected [by body dysmorphia]. I\u2019d say most guys are, but I would say mine got quite bad\u2026 It\u2019s a real struggle. It\u2019s like an everyday struggle. I am massively impacted by what other people think and if they think I look good or am a nice person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter breaking out in Hollywood with big studio franchise fare, which also included \u201cSnow White and the Huntsman,\u201d Claflin starred in the romance \u201cMe Before You\u201d and several indies, including \u201cTheir Finest\u201d and \u201cAdrift.\u201d His performance as Billy Dunne in the 2023 Hulu series \u201cDaisy Jones & the Six\u201d earned him a Golden Globe nomination. <\/p>\n
