Suarez and van Gisbergen were teammates at Trackhouse Racing in 2025. This year, Suarez has joined Spire Motorsports after being replaced by Connor Zilisch.<\/p>\n
During the first half of a chaotic 200-lapper, the New Zealander made mention of his former Mexican teammate\u2019s driving.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the third time the #7 got me for nothing,\u201d said SVG under caution, speaking with his team over the radio.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess he\u2019s excited he\u2019s not my teammate and he can hit me now.\u201d<\/p>\n
In another radio exchange, Suarez told his team: \u201cTell the #97 I\u2019m coming for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Van Gisbergen later asked if Suarez was \u201cbeefing\u201d with anyone else.<\/p>\n
Suarez was aggressive in his first outing with Spire, racing forward to finish an impressive fourth in the #7 Chevrolet Camaro.<\/p>\n
Speaking post-race, he downplayed an incident with 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace, but said he was not happy with van Gisbergen.<\/p>\n
\u201cI race people the same way they race me,\u201d Suarez began.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve noticed, but I\u2019m not racist. I love everyone. If they give me love, I give them love. If they give me hate, I give hate. That\u2019s the way it works.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know where is the line,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Van Gisbergen] did a couple of things that I didn\u2019t like. I pushed him a couple of times as well but he did it a couple more than what I did. It\u2019s part of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI bet there is a lot of hard feelings leaving this place with a lot of people. It\u2019s part of racing.\u201d<\/p>\n
SVG spun after leading wet and wild NASCAR Clash<\/a><\/p>\n Asked if the on-track skirmishes needed to be addressed, Suarez said he would quickly move on.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have a problem with him. It\u2019s just the way that he races,\u201d Suarez explained.<\/p>\n \u201cI have seen him race other people like that as well and it\u2019s fine, it\u2019s just that he has to know if you\u2019re going to race people that way, people are going to race you that way too.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why he got spun out up front.\u201d<\/p>\n Van Gisbergen led a small section of the race after rain hit right on halfway.<\/p>\n His hopes of victory were dashed when Chase Briscoe tipped van Gisbergen into a spin out of second place.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a good bit of fun,\u201d said SVG.<\/p>\n Daniel Suarez in the #7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro during the NASCAR Cup Series Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were moments of brilliance and moments that weren\u2019t. It was cool to get to the front.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were just trying to search for the grip. The wet weather conditions were very different than what I\u2019ve raced in Supercars, just with the way the corners are and the way the rubber lays down. But then it started to come back up again and dry up. It was pretty wild.<\/p>\n \u201cBut all-in-all, happy with our run and it\u2019s a good way to start the season for this #97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet team.\u201d<\/p>\n On the whole, Suarez labelled the race \u201ccrazier than what I would like\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a lot of fun. The dry, the first half, and then the second half being wet. I enjoyed it a lot,\u201d said Suarez.<\/p>\n \u201cDefinitely a little bit chaotic, especially up the front. Everybody was pushing each other.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was hard to pick a lane because everyone was using each other up and it was very difficult to know which lane was going to do what.<\/p>\n \u201cOverall, a good start for our team.
