Canadian-born pop star Tate McRae is getting a cold reception in her native country after hyping up Team USA<\/a> in an NBC<\/a> ad for this year\u2019s Winter Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the singer \u2014 whose album \u201cSo Close to What\u201d debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart last year \u2014 shared an ad promoting NBC\u2019s broadcast<\/a> of Friday\u2019s opening ceremony at the Milan Cortina Games.<\/p>\n

The clip depicts McRae in ski gear asking a snowy owl for directions to the \u201camazing\u201d ceremony so she can meet Team USA.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, it\u2019s the weekend with America\u2019s best skating for gold, and Lindsey Vonn\u2019s epic comeback. Then back to the States for the big game: Super Bowl 60,\u201d continued McRae, teasing NBC\u2019s coverage of the major sporting events.<\/p>\n

The ad is soundtracked by McRae\u2019s single, \u201cNobody\u2019s Girl,\u201d and features highlights of Team USA.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old, who described herself as a New York City resident<\/a> last year, was born in Calgary, Alberta and is notably a fan<\/a> of the city\u2019s NHL team, the Calgary Flames. Back in 2016, she made waves<\/a> on the U.S. version of \u201cSo You Think You Can Dance\u201d and finished in third place on the show.<\/p>\n

McRae\u2019s Team USA praise didn\u2019t sit well with several Canadians, including Virgin Radio Toronto hosts Daryn Jones and Deepa Prashad<\/a>, the latter of whom asked if the pop star was a \u201csellout.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo they not have an American who could be in that ad?\u201d Prashad asked her co-host.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Olympics were in Calgary, your hometown, Tate McRae. Is there no national pride?\u201d Jones asked.<\/p>\n

Others called out McRae on social media, including one Bluesky user who described her as an \u201cAlbertan traitor<\/a>\u201d and another on X who slammed the singer for showing love to the American athletes.<\/p>\n

\u201cTate, a Calgary girl, is out here shilling for Team USA. Disappointing, fuck you girl,\u201d wrote<\/a> the X user.<\/p>\n

HuffPost has reached out to McRae\u2019s representatives for comment.<\/p>\n

Competition at the Winter Olympics kicked off<\/a> on Wednesday. The opening ceremony is set to take place on Friday at San Siro Stadium in Milan.<\/p>\n
