A podcast host is haunted by cryptic audio recordings in the second trailer for undertone.<\/p>\n

Billed as \u201cthe scariest movie you\u2019ll ever hear,\u201d the slow-burn horror film will be released in theaters on March 13 via A24.<\/p>\n

Nina Kiri (\u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d) stars as Evy, a paranormal podcast host who moves into her dying mother\u2019s house to be her primary caregiver.<\/p>\n

When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural noises, she realizes the woman\u2019s story mirrors her own. Each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape.<\/p>\n

Adam DiMarco (\u201cThe White Lotus \u201c), Mich\u00e8le Duquet (The Virgin Suicides), Keana Lyn Bastidas (\u201cThe Hardy Boys\u201d), Jeff Yung (The Shrouds), and Ari Millen (\u201cOrphan Black\u201d) round out the cast.<\/p>\n

Writer-director Ian Tuason makes his feature debut on the project, shot on location inside his childhood home in Toronto. He\u2019ll next helm the new Paranormal Activity movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the added element of audio in undertone, it\u2019s not just imagining what you might see, it\u2019s also imagining what you might hear,\u201d Tuason explains. \u201cIt\u2019s the intermingling of the visual and auditory that amplifies the horror.\u201d<\/p>\n

Slaterverse Pictures\u2019 Dan Slater and Black Fawn Films\u2019 Cody Calahan produce. Executive producers include Steven Schneider & Roy Lee for Spooky Pictures, Chad Archibald for Black Fawn, Brit MacRae & Daril Fannin for Kino Studios, and DimensionGate.<\/p>\n

Joe Lipsett\u00a0wrote in his 4.5-skull review<\/a>, \u201cI can\u2019t remember the last time a movie made every hair on my body stand up, but undertone got me good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film premiered at last year\u2019s Fantasia Film Festival, igniting a seven-figure bidding war, and made its US debut at Sundance last month.<\/p>\n

undertone is rated R for \u201clanguage.\u201d<\/p>\n
