Kristen Stewart<\/a> has been unable to shake off Princess Diana<\/a> after playing the late royal in Spencer, the 2021 film that explored her struggles with the royal family<\/a>, her eating disorder and the breakdown of her marriage to then Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

The actor, who received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Pablo Larra\u00edn\u2019s movie, said she is on the verge of tears whenever she starts to think about the princess.<\/p>\n

She said she was \u201chaunted\u201d by her in a new interview, adding: \u201cI still am. I can\u2019t drive around London<\/a>, and Paris for that matter, without thinking about her… all the love that poured out of this woman.<\/p>\n

\u201dI can cry about her at any moment,\u201d she told The Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stewart said the costume she wore in the film, set during a miserable Christmas in 1991 at the royal residence Sandringham, was \u201cpart of the armour\u201d, which \u201callowed\u201d her to step into Diana\u2019s \u201cphysical space and create images of her in this prison of a castle\u201d.<\/p>\n

The actor also acknowledged that she was ideal casting as she shared many experiences with Diana, having been hounded by the media following her role in the Twilight franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does kind of soul-suck,\u201d she said. \u201cHer rebellious qualities felt so desperate, and so young and so vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart added that she felt \u201ca bit like a shell\u201d when the shoot ended, stating: \u201cI think she did too. That was the point.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of the film\u2019s release, Stewart said she experienced \u201cspooky, spiritual feelings\u201d while making the film, and felt that Diana had given her the \u201csign-off\u201d to perform the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if I was just fantasising. I felt like there were moments where I kind of got the sign-off,\u201d she told the LA Times. \u201cShe felt so alive to me when I was making this movie, even if it was just a fantasy of mine. But there were moments where my body and mind would forget she was dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.<\/p>\n

Stewart has turned director for new psychological drama The Chronology of Water<\/a>, which is being released in the UK this week, nine months after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. <\/p>\n
