{"id":270740,"date":"2026-02-06T13:43:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T13:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/270740\/"},"modified":"2026-02-06T13:43:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T13:43:17","slug":"jersey-radio-presenter-phil-taylor-dies-at-62-radiotoday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/270740\/","title":{"rendered":"Jersey radio presenter Phil Taylor dies at 62 \u2013 RadioToday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a itemprop=\"url\" class=\"kdafxujcge-link\" href=\"https:\/\/todayl.ink\/aiirjune\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"kdafxujcge-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/RTUKPackageDeal1webp.webp.webp\" alt=\"Aiir June 2\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>BBC Radio Jersey has paid tribute to long-serving presenter Phil Taylor following his death at the age of 62.<\/p>\n<p>Phil was part of the station\u2019s team for more than 35 years before <a href=\"https:\/\/radiotoday.co.uk\/2024\/07\/bbc-radio-jerseys-phil-taylor-retires-from-broadcasting-after-35-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retiring<\/a> 18 months ago, leaving behind a significant on-air and behind-the-scenes legacy within the island\u2019s radio community.<\/p>\n<p>Although best known for presenting the Sunday request programme By Special Request, he also hosted Saturday morning shows and a range of bank holiday specials, becoming a familiar and trusted voice for listeners across Jersey over several decades.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Price, BBC Radio Jersey executive producer, worked with Phil Taylor for 25 years and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cj9rkw0j8nlo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the BBC<\/a> he built a close bond with audiences. He said: \u201cPhil developed a wonderfully warm relationship with listeners,\u201d recalling how the presenter became closely associated with Sunday afternoons and a programme shaped by personal music choices.<\/p>\n<p>Price said that slot became defined by \u201cmusic that mattered to you\u201d, with Phil playing requests spanning classical, hymns, country and pop, reflecting the tastes and stories of his audience.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside presenting, Phil was a valued technical operator for major broadcasts including Royal Outside Broadcasts, Liberation Day and Election nights, and regularly supported the Saturday Sports Show.
