\n Royal
\nNew Zealand Navy vessel HMNZS Canterbury is on its first
\nSouth West Pacific maritime operation for 2026, Operation
\nCalypso, which includes a visit to Tokelau \/
\nSupplied<\/p>\n

Royal New Zealand Navy
\n(RNZN) multi-role vessel HMNZS Canterbury will arrive into
\nSamoa this weekend for a fuel stop as the ship begins its
\nfirst South West Pacific maritime operation for 2026,
\nOperation Calypso.<\/p>\n

The deployment includes a visit to
\nTokelau, a realm nation which was last visited by an RNZN
\nship in 2020.<\/p>\n

Making the journey on Canterbury to the
\natolls of Atafu, Nukunono and Fakaofo will be the
\nGovernor-General of New Zealand Dame Cindy Kiro and her
\nhusband Dr Richard Davies, reaffirming the special bonds
\nbetween the two nations as they mark the centenary of New
\nZealand administration of Tokelau on 11 February.<\/p>\n

Also
\ntravelling to Tokelau will be personnel from various New
\nZealand Government agencies.<\/p>\n

Weather agency MetService
\nreceived a request from Tokelau government agencies for
\nobserver training and will be conducting a needs assessment
\nas well as servicing the Automatic Weather Station on
\nNukunonu.<\/p>\n

One New Zealand Police officer will take the
\nopportunity to meet with the Tokelau Chief of Police and
\nother officials, and an officer from the Tokelauan National
\nDisaster Management Office will also be on Canterbury to
\ntransit between the atolls.<\/p>\n

Once the mission in
\nTokelau has concluded, Canterbury will return to Apia to
\ndisembark some passengers before returning to New Zealand
\nvia Raoul Island.<\/p>\n

On Raoul Island, Royal New Zealand
\nAir Force NH90 helicopters and flight crew who are on board
\nCanterbury, along with New Zealand Army personnel and the
\nship\u2019s company, will assist MetService and Earth Sciences
\nNew Zealand personnel to carry out upgrade and maintenance
\ntasks of critical weather, tsunami and volcano monitoring
\nequipment and facilities.<\/p>\n

Commander Joint Forces New
\nZealand, Major General Rob Krushka, says the Pacific mission
\nOperation Calypso highlights the capability of the New
\nZealand Defence Force\u2019s people and
\nplatforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cTokelau and Raoul Island are two
\nexamples of hard to reach places in our region, where
\ncarrying out tasks can be very logistically
\nchallenging.<\/p>\n

\nthe visit of Her Excellency the Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro and
\nNew Zealand government agencies to deliver services and
\nequipment to these areas through one of our regular South
\nWest Pacific
