Percat came under the fire from the local law during last year\u2019s Taupo Supercars event thanks to some tyre smoking work during the track to town parade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t the first to pull such a stunt, James Courtney famously burning some rubber in 2024, however more strict guidelines for 2025 left local police unimpressed.<\/p>\n

There was speculation Percat\u2019s car could be impounded during the race event, or a significant fine applied, and while those outcomes were avoided, he was left with a community service sentence to serve.<\/p>\n

Since then any detail on the matter has been hard to come by, until Percat\u2019s recent appearance on the Lucky Dogs podcast where he opened up on the saga.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just doing it for the fans,\u201d Percat told hosts Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently there were cops at the track to try and take the car. Supercars stopped that. I think they genuinely stopped that.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then they were like, \u2018you can\u2019t race\u2019. And then I got out of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think actually all of you in front of me did it. [Will Davison] definitely did. And I\u2019m like, \u2018oh okay\u2019. So I did like a little bit of a skid, a bit of brake pressure as well. And then did another one a bit further around.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then, yeah, it just kicked off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the fine was like \u2013 we\u2019d have to ring Tim Edwards \u2013 [but] it was massive. I\u2019m like, \u2018I physically don\u2019t have that much money\u2019, like huge money.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust take my licence. I\u2019m done. I\u2019m not paying that fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then we got it to community service.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen they sent through this thing; it was going to Matt [Stone], and then Matt wasn\u2019t forwarding the info to me and they were getting the shits.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they\u2019re like, \u2018Nick, when are you doing this community service?\u2019. And they sent it through. And I was basically the equivalent of 9am-5pm for two weeks in New Zealand.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018don\u2019t take this the wrong way, but I run a business. I can\u2019t go to New Zealand for two weeks\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually sent Tim Edwards my schedule and I\u2019m like, \u2018if you can find a three-day block in the next six months, it\u2019s yours\u2019. And they couldn\u2019t find one.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I think if I go to New Zealand, it\u2019s probably outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Percat joked that fears over flying back into New Zealand had ruined his wedding plans with fianc\u00e9 Baylee Mullen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got engaged in Queenstown, and we were going to have our wedding there,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd she\u2019s like, \u2018well, now you\u2019ve just ruined it. Knowing your luck, we\u2019ll get there and they\u2019ll be like, we\u2019re not letting you through the border.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018it can\u2019t be that bad\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
