We talk about Climate change<\/a> like it is a vague global problem. But a new breakdown makes it feel very specific. In 2024, just 32 companies were linked to more than half of global fossil carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p>\n

According to Dana Drugmand at Inside Climate News<\/a>, the Carbon Majors database tracks how much carbon Pollution<\/a> can be traced to the oil, gas, coal, and cement giants. It uses production data to estimate the emissions tied to each producer.<\/p>\n

The point is not abstract blame. It is accountability. What stands out is how concentrated the damage has become. The list has shrunk over time, even as overall emissions stay stubbornly high. Meanwhile, many of the biggest producers still plan to expand output.<\/p>\n

This matters for regular people in the United States. More heat waves and smoke mean higher risks for health<\/a>. Floods and drought also hit food prices and water security. And when habitats burn or dry out, wildlife<\/a> loses first.<\/p>\n

It also matters for the environment<\/a> because policy fights are not happening in a vacuum. The reporting highlights ongoing lobbying that slows the clean energy transition. That is a choice, not an accident.<\/p>\n

The good news is we have clear targets. Researchers behind \u201cThe 2024 state of the climate report: Perilous times on planet Earth<\/a>\u201d argue that rapidly phasing down fossil fuels should be a top priority.<\/p>\n

So what can we do? Push for stronger rules that cut Pollution<\/a> at the source. Support<\/a> local clean power. And do not underestimate food choices. A vegan<\/a> meal can lower demand for the most carbon intensive systems.<\/p>\n
