{"id":27567,"date":"2025-09-17T10:27:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T10:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/27567\/"},"modified":"2025-09-17T10:27:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T10:27:08","slug":"tiger-found-dead-in-car-boot-in-malaysia-3-arrested-for-illegal-poaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/27567\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiger found dead in car boot in Malaysia, 3 arrested for illegal poaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/malaysia?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Malaysian<\/a> police have arrested three men on suspicion of poaching a critically endangered Malayan tiger, after the animal\u2019s carcass was discovered inside the boot of a car in the southern state of Johor.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The grisly discovery was made during a joint operation by the Bukit Aman Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and the Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks on Tuesday morning in Felda Tenggaroh, Mersing.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In a statement on social media, the FRU said its intelligence unit had inspected a Perodua Alza multipurpose vehicle and uncovered the carcass of a Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni), believed to have been hunted illegally. Three men, aged between 28 and 49, were arrested after failing to produce special permits for possessing the protected species.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The FRU confirmed that the tiger had suffered severe snare wounds and six gunshot injuries to the head, which were believed to have caused its death during an initial examination.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Authorities also seized the vehicle and four mobile phones, with the combined value of confiscated items estimated at 294,007 ringgit (US$70,000).
