{"id":275824,"date":"2026-02-09T22:28:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T22:28:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/275824\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T22:28:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T22:28:50","slug":"philadelphia-museum-of-art-senior-staff-resignations-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/275824\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia Museum of Art senior staff resignations continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Two more <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/philadelphia-art-museum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/a> senior staffers are departing as the museum continues to plot out its path after <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\">a period of institutional turmoil<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Maggie Fairs, who was promoted to chief of staff last year by former director and <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/sasha-suda-philadelphia-museum-of-art-20251104.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/sasha-suda-philadelphia-museum-of-art-20251104.html\">CEO Sasha Suda<\/a>, will leave the museum at the end of the month. CFO Valarie McDuffie has also resigned, with her last day this Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Previously, the museum <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-rebrand-marketing-paul-dien-resignation-20260120.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-rebrand-marketing-paul-dien-resignation-20260120.html\">parted ways<\/a> with its marketing chief Paul Dien as of Feb. 1. Days later, the museum announced that it was <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\">reversing course<\/a> on a renaming while keeping its new logo. Both changes were unveiled four months earlier in a <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-modern-rebrand-name-20251008.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-modern-rebrand-name-20251008.html\">rebranding overseen by Suda<\/a> and Dien.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">No other immediate departures are expected, though the museum is working on an \u201corganizational review,\u201d with more changes possible later, a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \"><a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/press.philamuseum.org\/the-philadelphia-museum-of-art-welcomes-two-new-members-to-its-senior-leadership-team\/#:~:text=May%2018%2C%202023%20%2D%20Sasha%20Suda,Fairs%20as%20Vice%20President%2C%20Communications.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/press.philamuseum.org\/the-philadelphia-museum-of-art-welcomes-two-new-members-to-its-senior-leadership-team\/#:~:text=May%2018%2C%202023%20%2D%20Sasha%20Suda,Fairs%20as%20Vice%20President%2C%20Communications.\">Suda announced the arrival of both Fairs and McDuffie<\/a> in May 2023, saying that \u201cthese two colleagues reflect the future of the institution.\u201d Fairs was hired as vice president of communications after having worked in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. McDuffie had previously held several senior financial posts in secondary education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Fairs was promoted by Suda to chief of staff in May 2025. A replacement will not be hired, as the museum is restructuring the director\u2019s office without that position.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Suda was <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/sasha-suda-philadelphia-museum-of-art-20251104.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/sasha-suda-philadelphia-museum-of-art-20251104.html\">dismissed from the museum in November<\/a> and subsequently <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-lawsuit-20251110.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-lawsuit-20251110.html\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> alleging that her dismissal was \u201cwithout a valid basis.\u201d The matter is <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-lawsuit-arbitration-20260131.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-lawsuit-arbitration-20260131.html\">now headed to arbitration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \"><a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-director-daniel-weiss-20260121.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-director-daniel-weiss-20260121.html\">Director and CEO Daniel H. Weiss<\/a>, who took over in December, said in January that the staff of the museum was \u201cthe heart and soul of the place and they need to be treasured and supported and also held accountable,\u201d and that the museum needed \u201ca senior management team that is available to them and transparent in its processes and also accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Asked at the time whether there would be a reorganization, he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cWith our ambition and our mission, and as that evolves a little bit under each new leader, there needs to be careful review of how the organization serves the needs of the moment. So that\u2019s underway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The museum on Monday also announced Katherine Anne Paul as new curator of Indian and Himalayan art. Paul was most recently curator of Asian Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art since 2019, and held earlier positions at the Newark Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. She holds a Ph.D. in languages and cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin\u2013Madison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Weiss, in Monday\u2019s announcement, singled out Paul\u2019s scholarship and her extensive knowledge of the Philadelphia Museum of Art\u2019s collection.
