A \u2018traumatic incident team\u2019 was working with the kura whose students were on the bus, she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis support will be available for as long as it\u2019s needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the crash had caused \u201cabsolute devastation\u201d in the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWairoa is a small place, everyone knows each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said his heart went out to the families involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just one of those things that you just couldn\u2019t even imagine would happen and it\u2019s pretty devastating for us all.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just absolutely horrible. It\u2019s going to rock the town.\u201d<\/p>\n
Little said the crash happened in a 50km\/h zone and it was unusual for a fatality to occur there, but added police were working to find out the cause.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to two other incidents in Wairoa within an hour of the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said around 2.15pm yesterday a truck and trailer rolled, partially blocking one lane in the town, and just before 3pm there was a minor incident with a vehicle close to the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
