Joshua Achiam, who led the team, will take on a new title as OpenAI&#8217;s &#8220;chief futurist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The mission alignment team was created in 2024 to promote the company&#8217;s stated mission to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. <\/p>\n<p>OpenAI CEO Sam Altman <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1839096160168063488?lang=en&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow\">announced<\/a> that Achiam would lead the new team on September 25 of that year. The announcement came the same day that then-chief technical officer Mira Murati <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/09\/25\/openais-chief-research-officer-has-left\/?ref=platformer.news\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> her surprise departure from OpenAI, along with two key researchers.
