A while back, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called\u00a0Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by\u00a0Se7en\u00a0scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of\u00a0Zombieland\u00a0and the Walker-scripted\u00a08MM,\u00a0was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and\u00a06\u20195\u2033+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers\u00a0in the title role.\u00a0A year has already passed since\u00a0we heard<\/a>\u00a0that the film had earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. We\u2019re finally going to have the chance to see\u00a0Psycho Killer\u00a0when Walt Disney Studios \/ 20th Century brings it to theatres on\u00a0February 20, 2026\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and in the build-up to that date, a clip has dropped online to introduce us to our \u201cnew nightmare,\u201d the film\u2019s Satanic Slasher. Synopsis<\/p>\n

Campbell is taking on the role of\u00a0Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the \u2018Satanic Slasher,\u2019 following the murder of her state trooper husband. We had previously heard that Miller\u2019s character is\u00a0Marvin, a goth-type nebbish who works for the mysterious Pendleton in his massive mansion. Pendleton is so mysterious, Deadline didn\u2019t even explain who they were referencing when they dropped that description. In their release date report, they credited Miller with playing the ill-fated state trooper husband\u2026 so this movie is so shrouded in mystery, even Deadline is confused.<\/p>\n

New Regency produced\u00a0Psycho Killer\u00a0with Roy Lee, Walker, Miri Yoon, and Matt Berenson. Constantin Film is co-financing.<\/p>\n

A Long Time Coming<\/p>\n

Psycho Killer\u00a0is a project that spent several years in development hell. It\u00a0first hit the news back in early 2009, when Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst\u00a0was\u00a0set to direct<\/a>. Durst had moved on by late 2010, by which time Eli Roth was\u00a0planning to produce<\/a>\u00a0it with Eric Newman, his co-producer on\u00a0The Last Exorcism. They eventually moved on as well.<\/p>\n

Polone came on board during the Roth and Newman days, and has finally managed to get the film into production. As years went by, a 2007 draft of the screenplay made its way online, so it will be interesting to see if and how things changed during this long journey. I have been looking forward to this movie for sixteen years already, and now that I have seen a trailer for it, I\u2019m even more interested in seeing it.<\/p>\n
