MAGA favorite Kid Rock headlined Turning Point USA\u2019s alternative halftime show during Super Bowl LX, but his participation was reportedly more than just a protest<\/a> of Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny.<\/p>\n

The \u201cBawitdaba\u201d singer, 55, started going by his legal name, Robert Ritchie, in interviews in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was months in the making,\u201d a source told Rob Shuter for his \u201cNaughty But Nice\u201d Substack<\/a> in a story published on Wednesday, February 11. \u201cThe redneck persona is branding. The MAGA base is the customer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ritchie performed a cover of Cody Johnson\u2019s 2021 hit,\u201cTil You Can\u2019t\u201d during his performance, which streamed on YouTube.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a book that\u2019s sitting in your house somewhere \/ That could use some dusting off \/ There\u2019s a man who died for all our sins \/ Hanging from the cross \/ You can give your life to Jesus,\u201d he sang, adding lyrics that are not part of Johnson\u2019s original hit.<\/p>\n

The song reportedly shot to No. 1 on iTunes charts by Monday, February 9, just hours after his live performance, per Shuter.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s no fool. He understands his audience better than most artists do,\u201d an insider told Shuter.<\/p>\n

Turning Point USA\u2019s alternative halftime<\/a> show was created as a protest to the \u201cMe Porto Bonito\u201d artist\u2019s selection as the Super Bowl halftime performer. The far-right organization branded their show the \u201cAll-American Halftime Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Country singers Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett also performed.<\/p>\n
