{"id":279986,"date":"2026-02-12T06:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T06:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/279986\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T06:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T06:16:07","slug":"napier-wharf-closed-to-all-users-including-the-boaties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/279986\/","title":{"rendered":"Napier wharf closed to all users, including the boaties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">It came just days after the ramp\u2019s busiest weekend of the year, when about 130 boats put to sea in the club\u2019s four-day Megafish tournament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">The affected portion of the wharf has been fenced off ever since, but allowed the owners continued access to their boats and moorings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">It was unclear on Thursday what the future would be for being able to board their craft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">The council said Nelson Quay Wharf, off which is the launching ramp at the Hawke\u2019s Bay Sports Fishing Club, is closed until further notice and that council is exploring all options for the wharf\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">Structural issues identified with the wharf in 2025 remain unchanged, it said, adding updated health and safety advice means the council is \u201ctaking all reasonable steps to ensure public safety\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">Mayor Richard McGrath, who was elected to the position when the local elections ended just days before the initial moves in October, said council has a duty of care to all users and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"iSXYlpzztwWbxuk\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe closed the wharf several months ago, when information about its structural integrity came to light,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"The extended fencing closing Nelson Quay wharf at Ahuriri, Napier.
