Firefighters were delayed in responding to a callout in downtown Auckland, amid strike action.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union walked off the job for one hour from 12-1pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said two fire trucks arrived 30 minutes after a report of smoke coming from the top floor of Auckland’s Downtown ferry terminal was made at about 12.30pm.<\/p>\n

The Waitakere and Laingholm Volunteer Brigades, both 30 minutes away from Auckland CBD, were the closest crews available, arriving just after 1pm.<\/p>\n

A crew from Parnell, located only a few minutes away from the scene, were delayed because of the strike, arriving shortly after, in addition to a crew from Silverdale.<\/p>\n

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said that at about 1:30pm they confirmed there was no fire, and the smoke was from a chimney working normally.<\/p>\n
