\n\tDirector Shawn Levy<\/a> has revealed the first look at \u201cStar Wars<\/a>: Starfighter,\u201d a spinoff in the space opera series starring Ryan Gosling<\/a> and newcomer Flynn Gray. In the behind-the-scenes shot, Gosling and Gray\u2019s characters are wearing battered clothing while adrift on some sort of water craft. This oceanic location (Levy captioned the photo \u201cSomewhere in the Mediterranean Sea and tagged the Instagram post in Sardinia, Italy) is a shift from prior \u201cStar Wars\u201d adventures, set mostly across the galaxy on desert planets like Tatooine and Jakku.<\/p>\n \n\tPlot details are unclear but Lucasfilm previously confirmed that \u201cStarfighter\u201d will be an \u201centirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in \u2018Star Wars.’\u201d The standalone film, which focuses on new characters in the sci-fi universe, is reportedly set about five years after the events of 2019\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,\u201d which ends with a victory for the Resistance.<\/p>\n \n\tThough not pictured in Levy\u2019s social media post, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre (\u201cRebel Ridge\u201d), Simon Bird (\u201cThe Inbetweeners\u201d), Jamael Westman (\u201cGood Grief\u201d) and Daniel Ings (\u201cThe Gentlemen\u201d) will round out the cast of the film. Jonathan Tropper (\u201cThe Adam Project\u201d) is writing the screenplay; Levy will also produce with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.<\/p>\n
