A Tauranga mother is searching for the man who came to her daughter\u2019s rescue after being threatened by an enraged man at a petrol station.<\/p>\n
Chelsea, 16, arrived at Gate P\u0101 BP station yesterday to wash and vacuum her car.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, she first noticed a man cleaning his car, but soon realised she didn\u2019t have $2, so went home to get some change.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
However, the man was still vacuuming his car when she returned 20 minutes later.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Chelsea noticed a pile of rubbish nearby.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cA dirty mattress, broken pallets, large clothing bags and 2-litre Pump bottles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
A BP attendant came out of the station and first asked Chelsea if the items belonged to her and, after she denied it, asked the man vacuuming his car.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cSo she said, \u2018I\u2019m going to throw it away.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Chelsea went through the carwash; however, once she came out, the man was still vacuuming his car.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
She went inside to buy some chicken nuggets after waiting for another five minutes.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Not long afterwards, the man came into the station and demanded to know where his stuff was.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The situation soon worsened when he became more aggressive, accusing the staff of throwing his belongings away.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cHe looked at me and said, \u2018It was f**kin you, eh?\u201d, Chelsea said.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cHe then started pacing around the gas station, flailing his shirt around.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
It was then that a man, whom Chelsea described as a \u201cregular dude\u201d, turned to her and asked if she was okay.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI said \u2018I\u2019m okay, but thank you though\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The man then paid for her chicken nuggets and warned her to get in her car and leave after the enraged man allegedly returned from his car with an axe.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve never reversed so quickly and precisely in my life. I was calling the police and my hands were shaking as I was driving home.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was the bumpiest drive of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Chelsea\u2019s mum then posted an account of the incident on Facebook, thanking the man who had stepped in to reassure her daughter.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the man who helped my kid at the Gate P\u0101 BP station this morning while some axe-wielding maniac went off his nut at her and the BP attendant \u2013 thank you so much,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s only 16 and she said you gave out \u2018safe dad energy\u2019 when she was really scared.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The 16-year-old echoed the statement.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI just wanted to say thanks and it was really nice to have someone there,\u201d she told the\u00a0Herald.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
A police spokesperson said they received a report of a person making threats at a commercial premises on Cameron Rd yesterday, where a man was present with the contents of his vehicle on the ground.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
He was allegedly verbally heightened and abusive towards staff and police.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said the man was trespassed, gathered up his belongings and left without incident.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
While an axe was mentioned in the initial report, officers did not locate or sight one when speaking to the man in question.<\/p>\n
\n
<\/p>\n
Enquiries are ongoing.<\/p>\n
