{"id":283169,"date":"2026-02-14T02:31:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T02:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/283169\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T02:31:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T02:31:14","slug":"wallaby-charlie-star-of-the-day-in-highlands-ranch-escape-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/283169\/","title":{"rendered":"Wallaby Charlie star of the day in Highlands Ranch escape adventure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Douglas County patrol took an unexpected turn when deputies encountered Charlie the Wallaby on the loose.<\/p>\n<p>HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. \u2014 Deputies in Douglas County encountered a wallaby on a recent patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The Douglas County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1373880207754730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">shared bodycam video<\/a> of a recent call for a &#8220;kangaroo&#8221; on the run in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff&#8217;s office said the suspect turned out to be Charlie the Wallaby, who even has his<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/chuck_wallaby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a0own Instagram page.<\/a> Everyone was safe, as Charlie made his way home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You really don\u2019t know what a day on patrol will bring at the Douglas County Sheriff\u2019s Office,&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1373880207754730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a0the sheriff&#8217;s office posted.<\/a> &#8220;Deputies recently responded to a call no one had on their bingo card.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The story immediately became one for the books,&#8221; the sheriff&#8217;s office posted. &#8220;From routine calls to the unexpected (and occasionally adorable), our deputies are always ready \u2014 no matter what hops their way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m not going to lie, this is going to be the highlight of my year,&#8221; a sergeant said.<\/p>\n<p>    <script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Douglas County patrol took an unexpected turn when deputies encountered Charlie the Wallaby on the loose.
