{"id":283675,"date":"2026-02-14T10:19:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T10:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/283675\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T10:19:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T10:19:10","slug":"donegal-photographer-hangs-up-his-camera-after-four-decades-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/283675\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal photographer hangs up his camera after four decades \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">After more than four decades capturing the very pulse of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\">Donegal<\/a> and its people, photographer Declan Doherty has compiled a collection of his work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A photojournalist with the Donegal News regional newspaper, the Letterkenny native recently closed the door on his office darkroom for the last time, having retired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, those not familiar with his work now have the chance to see it up close and personal at the Regional Cultural Centre in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/letterkenny\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/letterkenny\">Letterkenny<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Declan Doherty\u2019s Donegal contains 400 photographs from the hundreds of thousands of images he has captured during those years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is, without doubt, the most concise photographic collection of the county, its people and the events that have shaped it over the past half-century.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Lieut Mike Sullivan and airman Adrian Thompson of the Irish Air Corps deliver bales of hay to hungry sheep on Rathlin O'Birne Island in 1999 following a prolonged spell of bad weather.
