\n\tIn a bold move to take Spain\u2019s biggest comedy franchise to the world, Film Factory<\/a> has secured international sales rights to \u201cTorrente<\/a> for President,\u201d created, directed and starring Santiago Segura<\/a> as the perpetually drunk, self-centered sexist, and racist scumbag ex-cop Torrente.<\/p>\n

\n\tHitting Spain in 1998 with \u201cTorrente, the Dumb Arm of the Law,\u201d hailed by Variety as \u201cdeliriously non p.c.\u201d and \u201ca tremendously enjoyable comedy-thriller,\u201d the franchise has punched over 16 million admissions in Spain \u2013 over $100 million \u2013 making it the highest-grossing series in the history of Spanish cinema.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen \u201cTorrente\u201d first bowed, he was regarded as a hilarious parody of a throw back to the times of dictator Francisco Franco, a past which most Spaniards disavowed in a modern democratic Spain. These days, however, there are more urgent and immediate references.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSet for release in Spain on March 13, 2026 via Sony Pictures<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cTorrente for President\u201d will open in the long run-up to general elections in Spain, which have to take place by August 2027. One of the biggest political question for Spain is whether far-right Vox would end up forming part of a coalition governments on federal, regional or municipal levels.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot for \u201cTorrente\u201d is still under wraps. One scene leaked online shows Torrente addressing a crowd of followers from a balcony above a canvas banner for his party, Nox.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have my bags ready to leave Spain on March 14,\u201d Segura joked on Spanish comedy chat show \u201cEl Hormiguero\u201d this December.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFilm Factory announced Friday that the film will feature\u00a0international cast participation, raising the question whether Trump, Musk or other figures not so far from Torrente\u2019s political creed will also be referenced.\u00a0<\/p>\n
