The nonprofit GiveDirectly, helmed by Nick Allardice, has applied the same model around the world, including in the U.S.: In 2025, the organization sent emergency cash to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givedirectly.org\/snap-response\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">238,153 American families<\/a> in just under two weeks to subsidize a potentially devastating pause in SNAP grocery benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-text mb-6 self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\" data-testid=\"paragraph-content\">Over the past year, GiveDirectly sent more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givedirectly.org\/about\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$145 million<\/a> to over 443,000 of the world\u2019s poorest households. Unlike many aid models, the money\u2014from philanthropists, foundations, individuals, and institutional partners\u2014is not designated for specific purposes.
