{"id":284298,"date":"2026-02-14T20:16:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T20:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/284298\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T20:16:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T20:16:08","slug":"england-v-scotland-live-updates-six-nations-clash-murrayfield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/284298\/","title":{"rendered":"England v Scotland live updates: Six Nations clash, Murrayfield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Live updates of the Six Nations clash between England and Scotland at Murrayfield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">England boss Steve Borthwick insists under-fire Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend deserves to keep his job regardless of the result in Saturday\u2019s Six Nations clash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Townsend faced calls for his sacking after Scotland\u2019s embarrassing 18-15 loss to Italy in Rome in their Six Nations opener.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Former Scotland captain John Barclay said this week that if they fail to finish in the top three in the Six Nations then it \u201cbecomes a necessity to see a change\u201d before the 2027 World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<a class=\"ad__link\" data-test-ui=\"ad__link\" href=\"https:\/\/nzme.co.nz\/advertise\/\" data-ad-env=\"both\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advertise with NZME.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Townsend was unable to guide Scotland out of the group stage of the 2019 and 2023 World Cups and has never finished higher than third in the Six Nations during his nine years in charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">But Borthwick said ahead of England\u2019s attempt to claim a first win at Murrayfield since 2020: \u201cI think Gregor Townsend is a wonderful coach. I was told recently that he has the best win record of any Scotland coach in the professional era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Borthwick added he believes Townsend should have more backing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe way he has coached the attack they have and the way they move the ball, when they do that they look terrific,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI have immense respect for him as a coach and I find it surprising that people are not spending more time talking about Scotland rather than not supporting their coach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe\u2019s a phenomenal coach and they should spend more time supporting him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"flex cursor-pointer items-center gap-1.5 text-black\" data-test-ui=\"social-link--bookmark-below\" aria-label=\"bookmark\" id=\"social-link--bookmark-below\">Save<\/a>Share this articleCopy LinkEmailFacebookTwitter\/XLinkedInReddit<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Live updates of the Six Nations clash between England and Scotland at Murrayfield.
