As the show continues to wait for a proper renewal, one of IT: Welcome to Derry<\/a>‘s stars is weighing in on a potential season 2 return.<\/p>\n

Developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, who also showruns with Brad Caleb Kane, the HBO series serves as a prequel to Stephen King’s novel<\/a> of the same name, exploring Pennywise’s 1962 feasting period on the titular town. Also connected to the Muschiettis’ two-part film adaptation of the 1986 novel, the series garnered largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, while also scoring strong ratings for both HBO and HBO Max. <\/p>\n

Now, in an interview with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender to discuss the Spartacus: House of Ashur season 1 finale<\/a>, Tenika Davis has opened up about the chances of returning for IT: Welcome to Derry season 2. When asked about her experiences on both shows, particularly given their penchants for gore, David described them as being “completely different,” humorously acknowledging one required “running around in my underwear on the sand with weapons.”<\/p>\n

However, she did also state that both shows fit nicely into her new goal for her career, which was “to play transformational characters,” having said that to herself prior to landing Welcome to Derry and before the Spartacus spinoff was even sent her way. She even laughed as she recalled thinking, “Be careful what you wish for,” once she was “cast as a monster” in the IT prequel series, but is nonetheless ready to reprise her role:<\/p>\n

Tenika Davis: Working with Amanda Christine, Andy Muschietti, and the team from Welcome to Derry was a dream come true. It really allowed me to see the core of a lot of the pieces of myself that I didn’t know I had. It was an amazing experience. There were lots of laughs on set. I will say that I enjoyed the hell out of each one of those characters, and I would gladly do either again.<\/p>\n

Tenika Davis primarily appeared in the second episode of IT: Welcome to Derry season 1<\/a>, starring as Ida Grogan, mother to Amanda Christine’s Ronnie, who died prior to the events of the show while giving birth to the young protagonist. She first appears as a nightmarish hallucination to Ronnie, as she’s nearly pulled back into a teeth-riddled womb. She was credited with an appearance in the season 1 finale, albeit it’s unclear as to where she appears.<\/p>\n

The future of IT: Welcome to Derry has been a point of curiosity and conflicting reports for the past year. Prior to the show’s premiere, Muschietti confirmed that there were at least two further seasons planned for the show, with each going backwards in time to explore Pennywise’s prior feeding periods referenced in the novel’s interludes that also involved the Bradley Gang massacre and ironworks factory explosion around Easter 1908. <\/p>\n

But despite these early plans, and the show’s success, IT: Welcome to Derry has gone two months<\/a> without an official season 2 renewal. In the wake of a report stating that a writers room had been opened, HBO boss Casey Bloys clarified that the delay was down to the Muschiettis figuring out a more specific plan for the next season, as they’re not technically adapting anything specifically from the novel, but that the show is more than likely to return.<\/p>\n

As for Davis’ chances to return for IT: Welcome to Derry, it does unfortunately seem unlikely for her to appear. With season 2 going backwards in time, that seemingly writes out Ronnie from making a new appearance, and therefore removing Ida as a potential form for Pennywise to take. Additionally, with Ronnie having seemingly confronted her trauma regarding her mother’s death, this would make the apparition a less-impactful one for IT to take.<\/p>\n

That being said, that doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility for Davis to come back in IT: Welcome to Derry. As Fuchs previously shared with ScreenRant<\/a>, the door is open to explore the young characters’ stories after season 1’s events, particularly why Will elects to move back to Derry. Given Ronnie and Will were shown having a romantic moment in the season 1 finale, the young heroine’s return could reveal her to not yet have fully processed her mom’s death, and Davis subsequently get more terrifying moments as Ida.<\/p>\n
