\n\tNeon<\/a> has scooped U.S. rights to\u00a0Ryusuke Hamaguchi<\/a>\u2018s (\u201cDrive My Car\u201d) French movie \u201cAll of a Sudden.\u201d The project is produced and sold internationally by Cinefrance. It\u2019s the first major deal \u2013 believed to be in the seven-figure range \u2014 of the European Film Market so far. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie shot in Paris with a glamorous female duo led by Virginie Efira (\u201cBenedetta\u201d) and Tao Okamoto (\u201cThe Wolverine\u201d). <\/p>\n

\n\tEfira (\u201cBenedatta\u201d) as Marie-Lou Fontaine, a director of a nursing home in the Paris suburbs, who defies convention by adopting the \u201cHumanitude\u201d method despite her team\u2019s resistance.\u00a0Her encounter with Mari Morisaki (Tao Okamoto, \u201cThe Wolverine\u201d), a terminally ill Japanese playwright, transforms her life. Together, they turn the facility into a symbol of resistance and humanity against the system\u2019s limits.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is\u00a0loosely inspired by a collection of real-life exchanged letters published in the book \u201cWhen Life Suddenly Takes a Turn: Twenty Letters Between a Philosopher with Terminal Cancer and a Medical\u00a0Anthropologist\u201d by Makiko Miyano and Maho Isono. It filmed on location in Paris and wrapped shooting in the fall. <\/p>\n

\n\tCinefrance, which reps the movie alongside Bitters End which reps Asia, and has already closed some deals with Plaion for Germany and Austria; and September Film for Benelux.<\/p>\n

\n\tCinefrance Studios is producing \u201cAll of a Sudden\u201d with Office Shirous & Bitters End in Japan, Heimatfilm in Germany and Tarantula in Belgium. Diaphana will distribute in France and Bitters End in Japan.<\/p>\n

\n\tHamaguchi broke through the international scene in a major way in 2022, after garnering four Oscar nominations for \u201cDrive My Car,\u201d including best director and adapted screenplay, as well as Japan\u2019s first ever for best picture.
