Apparently, some of those fortunate enough to get the Galaxy Z TriFold while they were in stock are seeing dead display issues, though it looks like it isn’t widespread.

According to a couple of Reddit users, the Galaxy Z TriFold is already showing what a defective unit looks like (via Android Headlines). The posts are a bit scary – even more so when you factor in the $2,899 price point. In both instances, the display dies and no longer responds.

Whether this is an example of growing pains in a new device or generally bad hardware is uncertain. In either case, it’s a big hassle for the user.

In the first Reddit post, the user notes that the device has been in their hands for a month. The Galaxy Z TriFold’s internal display stopped rendering anything, and the panel appeared to die. After a hard reboot, there was some temporary relief. The problem looks to be persistent, though.

Advertisement – scroll for more content

The other post shows off a phone that began registering phantom touches. The display looks to be suffering from hardware issues, showing only white. It looks powered but lacking proper connections. That’s further supported by the reported popping noise heard after opening and closing the phone, as intended.

This isn’t even the first report, as another user experienced an issue last month. In that instance, a visible line of broken pixels is seen right down the left of the display.

Both devices seem to look well-cared for. You would have to assume they were, considering the cost and general availability. The bad news is that these devices would likely need to be replaced or repaired via a warranty claim.

The good news, at least for other Galaxy Z TriFold users, is that these display faults seem to be uncommon. Even though these reports come weeks or days after receiving the folding phones, these situations seem to fall in line with what we’ve seen with the Galaxy Z Fold series.

That’s even more true for early generations. After all, this is Samsung’s first TriFold model. Unfortunately, this can’t be entirely unexpected. What should be expected, however, is that Samsung meets users halfway and offers replacements as needed. However, if more reports pour in and form a trend, then there may be a much larger issue at play.

Would this stop you from buying a Galaxy Z TriFold? Or is it the $2,899 buy-in?
