A spokesperson told the Herald that processing has been suspended due to the chemical incident, which led to a gas reaction. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs a precaution, six Levin Plant employees underwent medical checks. At this stage, it appears none of our people have been harmed,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe safety of our people remains our priority and we are working closely with emergency services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hato Hone St John said 11 vehicles attended the incident – five ambulances, three first response units, two operations managers, and the major incident support team.<\/p>\n
\u201cNineteen patients are currently being assessed at the scene,\u201d it said on its alerts site. \u201cNo further information is available at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden told the Herald he has been informed of the situation and understands emergency services are dealing with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere has been no impact on residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
