{"id":292642,"date":"2026-02-20T01:51:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T01:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/292642\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T01:51:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T01:51:11","slug":"google-blocked-over-1-75-million-play-store-app-submissions-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/292642\/","title":{"rendered":"Google blocked over 1.75 million Play Store app submissions in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Google blocked over 1.75 million Play Store app submissions in 2025\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/android-shield.jpg\" width=\"1600\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Google says that through 2025, it blocked more than 255,000 Android apps from obtaining excessive access to sensitive user data and rejected\u00a0over 1.75 million apps from being published on Google Play due to policy violations.<\/p>\n<p>The tech giant&#8217;s annual review of Android and Google Play security reveals how effective the implemented protection measures were in maintaining an ecosystem with honest developers and compliant apps.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re constantly improving our policies and protections to encourage safe, high-quality apps on Google Play and stop bad actors before they cause harm,&#8221; Google says.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiz.io\/lp\/ai-security-board-report-template?utm_source=bleepingcomputer&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=FY26Q4_INB_FORM_AI-Security-Board-Report-Template&amp;sfcid=701Vh00000Wn7E1IAJ&amp;utm_term=FY27-bleepingcomputer-article-970x250&amp;utm_content=AI-Board-Report\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ai-security-board-report-template.jpg\" alt=\"Wiz\" style=\"margin-top: 0px;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To this end, the company\u00a0implemented more than 10,000 safety checks on published apps and strengthened detection capabilities by integrating Google\u2019s latest generative AI models into the review process. This enabled human reviewers to identify complex and evolving malicious patterns more quickly and accurately.<\/p>\n<p>The highlights in terms of user protection last year include banning more than 80,000 &#8220;bad developer accounts, detecting over 1.75 million policy-violating apps, and denying over\u00a0255,000 apps access to sensitive user data.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Diagram\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diagram.jpg\" width=\"900\"\/>Source: Google<\/p>\n<p>Spam ratings and inauthentic reviews also represented a significant risk as they can be used to influence user perception of an app.<\/p>\n<p>Google says it blocked 160 million ratings last year and prevented an average 0.5-star drop that apps targeted by \u201creview bombing\u201d would otherwise have\u00a0suffered.<\/p>\n<p>Android\u2019s built-in security suite, Play Protect, which now scans over 350 billion apps every day, has identified over 27 million malicious apps sideloaded from outside Google Play.<\/p>\n<p>Play Protect\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/security\/google-expands-android-ai-scam-detection-to-more-pixel-devices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">enhanced fraud protection<\/a>\u2019 was expanded to cover over 2.8 billion Android devices in 185 markets, blocking 266 million installation attempts from 872,000 unique risky apps.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.android.com\/google\/play\/integrity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Play Integrity API<\/a>\u00a0service that app developers can use to protect their software against abuse and unauthorized access, now processes over 20 billion checks every day, Google says.
