19), potentially keeping the mission on track to launch as soon as early March.<\/p>\n<p>The space agency wrapped up the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-humans-moon-orbit\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-humans-moon-orbit\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-humans-moon-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artemis 2<\/a> wet dress rehearsal (WDR) \u2014 a two-day-long practice run of the operations leading up to launch \u2014 on Thursday night (Feb. 19) at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17705-nasa-kennedy-space-center.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17705-nasa-kennedy-space-center.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17705-nasa-kennedy-space-center.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kennedy Space Center<\/a> (KSC) in Florida.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"58686d1e-c8ca-452f-9912-a7b01cd5c9a3-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The Artemis 2 team notched a number of important milestones during the test, chief among them the successful fueling of the mission&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space Launch System<\/a> (SLS) rocket.<\/p>\n<p>You may href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orion<\/a> capsule, ground equipment and mission teams through their paces, ensuring that everything is ready for an actual liftoff.<\/p>\n<p>That launch will send four astronauts \u2014 NASA&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/nasa-astronaut-reid-wiseman-space-biography\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/nasa-astronaut-reid-wiseman-space-biography\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/nasa-astronaut-reid-wiseman-space-biography\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reid Wiseman<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/victor-glover.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/victor-glover.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-moon-astronaut-canada-jeremy-hansen\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-moon-astronaut-canada-jeremy-hansen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Hansen<\/a> \u2014 on a 10-day trip around the moon and back to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth<\/a>. Artemis 2 will be the first human spaceflight beyond low Earth orbit since the Apollo missions ended in 1972, as well as the first crewed mission of NASA&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-program.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-program.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-program.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artemis program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lone previous Artemis mission, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-going-back-to-the-moon\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-going-back-to-the-moon\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-going-back-to-the-moon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artemis 1,<\/a> successfully sent an uncrewed Orion to lunar orbit and back in late 2022. That flight was delayed multiple times by <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-launch-scrub-hydrogen-leak\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-launch-scrub-hydrogen-leak\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-1-launch-scrub-hydrogen-leak\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">leaks of liquid hydrogen<\/a> (LH2) propellant during ground testing, and it looked like Artemis 2 might be heading down a similar path.<\/p>\n<p>NASA cut short Artemis 2&#8217;s first WDR on Feb. 2 after <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">detecting an LH2 leak<\/a>, which emanated from an interface with the tail service mast, a part of the SLS&#8217; mobile launch tower that supplies fuel and other resources to the rocket via lines known as umbilicals. The Artemis 1 leak came from this same trouble spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>The Artemis 2 team replaced two seals in the area after the first WDR attempt, then partially filled the rocket&#8217;s tanks on Feb. 12 to test the fix. The seals held then, and they held on Thursday: Team members successfully filled SLS&#8217; two stages with 730,000 gallons (2.76 million liters) of supercold LH2 and liquid oxygen &#8220;without exceeding the ground safety limit of the hydrogen leak concentration,&#8221; according to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/missions\/2026\/02\/19\/live-artemis-ii-wet-dress-rehearsal-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/missions\/2026\/02\/19\/live-artemis-ii-wet-dress-rehearsal-coverage\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NASA update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Launch teams checked off other important WDR boxes on Thursday as well \u2014 for example, closing the Orion crew module hatch and ensuring that the capsule&#8217;s emergency-escape system was secure.
