Can you spot them all?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"9f9c9589-fd96-4015-8ffb-ca0c67c0f6f3\">Look to the western horizon at sunset on Feb. 20 to witness an incredible sight, as three planets shine below the slender crescent of the waxing moon, with Jupiter glowing high overhead in the winter sky.<\/p>\n<p>The upturned sickle-shape of the 18%-lit moon will appear 40 degrees above the horizon as the sun sets, with a string of bright &#8220;evening stars&#8221; representing <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venus<\/a>, Mercury and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saturn<\/a> arrayed beneath, fighting for attention in the glow of the setting sun.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"9f9c9589-fd96-4015-8ffb-ca0c67c0f6f3-2\">Saturn will be positioned 15 degrees directly below the crescent moon, with <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36-mercury-the-suns-closest-planetary-neighbor.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36-mercury-the-suns-closest-planetary-neighbor.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/36-mercury-the-suns-closest-planetary-neighbor.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercury<\/a> less than 10 degrees\u2014 roughly the width of your clenched fist held at arm&#8217;s length \u2014 to its lower right. (Image credit: Created by Anthony Wood in Canva)<\/p>\n<p id=\"c016ffa2-618a-4ac9-8ed5-a1ae3bed9d50\">Neptune is so distant that the blue spec of its disk can only be seen with the aid of an 8-inch telescope, but utmost care must be taken to ensure that <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the sun<\/a> is well below the horizon before pointing any telescopic equipment in its direction.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/45-uranus-seventh-planet-in-earths-solar-system-was-first-discovered-planet.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/45-uranus-seventh-planet-in-earths-solar-system-was-first-discovered-planet.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/45-uranus-seventh-planet-in-earths-solar-system-was-first-discovered-planet.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uranus<\/a>, meanwhile, will be five degrees below the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/pleiades.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/pleiades.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/pleiades.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pleiades<\/a> on Feb. 20 and while technically just bright enough to spot with the naked eye from a dark sky location, the planet will also benefit from the magnifying power of a telescope to spot its tiny aqua disk.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jupiter<\/a> dominates the sky this time of year and can be found high in the east at sunset, glowing with the bright stars <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/21940-castor-star.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/21940-castor-star.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/21940-castor-star.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Castor<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22068-pollux.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22068-pollux.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22068-pollux.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pollux<\/a> in the constellation Gemini.
