During a CBS Mornings appearance<\/a> on Friday, Feb. 20, the pop star and actress confirmed that the track, featured on her new album\u00a0luck…or something<\/a>, is about a rift<\/a> between her and sister\u00a0Haylie Duff.<\/a><\/p>\n “It’s definitely about my sister and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence. It’s not having my sister in my life at the moment, and I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record,” Hilary, 38, told host Anthony Mason.<\/p>\n Jon Kopaloff\/Getty; Randy Shropshire\/Getty<\/p>\n The “Weather for Tennis” singer noted how she’s seen so many people like her that exist in the world without their “other half.”<\/p>\n Hilary, who was visibly emotional, said she ultimately decided to put the track on the record because it’s her “truth.”<\/p>\n “So many people are having this experience [of estrangement], and for me, making a record was just going to be all about connection. I was never going to take outside songs from people…what would the point be, right, if it wasn’t me and it wasn’t my my life?” she said.<\/p>\n Hilary then discussed how challenging it’s been for the public to know everything about her life since she was a child.<\/p>\n “I didn’t necessarily choose that part, but it’s my reality, and so it was honestly like healing to say,” the “Roommates” performer said of the song.<\/p>\n She added that “it’s hard to to watch your life unfold on the internet sometimes with talking heads on TikTok speculating this, that, and the other.”<\/p>\n CBS Mornings\/YouTube<\/p>\n “Sometimes they’re wrong and sometimes they’re right,” Hilary said.<\/p>\n Mason, 69, then asked the Lizzie McGuire<\/a> alum if she was hoping Haylie, 41, would hear “We Don’t Talk.”<\/p>\n “I don’t think that that would help,” Hilary replied. “I think I have to just exist as a person on my own and do what I want to do.<\/p>\n She continued, “I hope that for everyone that is where I’m sitting, you have to do what you want to do and you have to do what feels good for you. It’s taken me a lot of time to get there and to live that way and to not care what the the noise is going to be around it and just be me.”<\/p>\n Rich Polk\/Getty<\/p>\n Hilary noted that she doesn’t know if her sister will hear the song.<\/p>\n “I don’t know how she’ll react to it,” she said. “But it is a really personal part of my life that doesn’t get to stay personal, so I might as well say how it is for me as an experience.”<\/p>\n Hilary concluded, “That’s all I’m trying to do. I’m not trying to say anything bad. It’s literally just my experience, and that’s really all I feel like sharing.”<\/p>\n PEOPLE reached out to reps for Haylie for comment.<\/p>\n In a Glamour<\/a>\u00a0cover story published on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Hilary appeared to address references to strained relationships with her sister\u00a0Haylie\u00a0and father Robert in the lyrics of her upcoming album\u00a0luck\u2026 or something.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s my family. Those are the people that affect you the most, take up the most space naturally as a human who\u2019s born into something. Just because you\u2019re born into a family doesn\u2019t mean that it always stays together. You can only control your side and your street.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, “I\u2019ve had a very complicated life, and my parents had a very complicated thing. I know it\u2019s not rare, and I think it goes back to the theme of, Why share now? I guess I just felt ready.”<\/p>\n Last month, Hilary debuted \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk\u201d at her Small Rooms, Big Nerves concerts, and\u00a0fans speculated its lyrics were about a rift with her sister.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not sure when it happened \/ Not even sure what it was about,\u201d she sings on the track, which also references coming from \u201cthe same home, the same blood.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"Hilary](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/103f053756c154521af11c920c01400c.jpeg\"\/)
