Emergency services are at an address in the Christchurch suburb of Bryndwr, where a number of people have been hurt after being attacked by dogs.<\/p>\n
Several police cars and ambulances were at the scene on Bevin Place, as well as a Christchurch City Council animal management vehicle.<\/p>\n
An RNZ reporter at the scene said a woman was being attended to by paramedics, and another person was on a stretcher and being put into an ambulance.<\/p>\n
Ambulance operator Hato Hone St John said three people were injured – two were taken to hospital, one critical and one serious, while the third was treated for minor injuries at the scene.<\/p>\n
Police later confirmed two dogs at the property were being restrained, and would soon be taken from the property.<\/p>\n
“There is no ongoing risk to the public, and a scene examination will be carried out,” Acting Superintendent Ash Tabb, Christchurch Metro acting area commander, said.<\/p>\n
Police said they were notified about 2.45pm, and there was no ongoing risk to the public.<\/p>\n
It comes the same week a Northland woman, 62-year-old Mihiata Te Rore, was killed by dogs<\/a> while visiting a home in the Northland town of Kaihu this week.<\/p>\n She was the fourth person in New Zealand killed by dogs in the last four years, three of which were in Northland. Elizabeth Whittaker was killed in an attack in 2023<\/a> while Neville Thomson<\/a> died in a 2022 attack. A four-year-old boy was also killed<\/a> in an attack in the Bay of Plenty last year.<\/p>\n
