{"id":295613,"date":"2026-02-21T19:47:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T19:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/295613\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T19:47:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T19:47:14","slug":"first-look-at-artists-impression-of-the-tribute-sculpture-proposed-for-a-longford-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/295613\/","title":{"rendered":"First look at artist&#8217;s impression of the tribute sculpture proposed for a Longford village"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ballinamuck 1798 Commemoration Committee have applied for planning permission to erect a tributary sculpture together with associative landscaping, pedestrian access, seating and all ancillary works in the area of Gaigue, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/news\/local-news\/2007168\/longford-history-and-the-forgotten-men-of-the-irish-revolution.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ballinamuck<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The person acting on behalf of the commemoration committee is architect David Silva.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screenshot_2026-02-16_103633-1771599749614.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"772\" height=\"612\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"\/>An artist&#8217;s impression of the proposed sculpture in one of three possible positions as per the planning application.<\/p>\n<p>As the site area includes lands under the ownership of Longford County Council, a letter was submitted by the council\u2019s Chief Executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/news\/what-s-on\/2016976\/a-distinctive-place-in-longford-s-emigration-story-argentine-ambassador-to-visit-ballymahon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Paddy Mahon<\/a> in which he consented to the inclusion of the lands in the planning permission application.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The engineer overseeing the project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/news\/local-news\/1757998\/longford-developer-gets-go-ahead-for-construction-of-new-hotel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mark Cunningham<\/a>, included in the application graphics depicting \u201cthree possible positions for the proposed sculpture\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screenshot_2026-02-16_103642-1771599778061.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"658\" height=\"619\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"\/>He added that the process of \u201cerecting a piece like what is proposed is a complicated process from funding right through to procurement,\u201d and that consequently the committee would \u201cwelcome a condition of planning permission\u201d so that in the event of such happening, \u201cthe exact final design to include the type of material that the sculpture shall be made of together with its exact position shall be submitted to The Local Authority for written agreement prior to the commencement of the development\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The council is due to return with a decision on the matter by April 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the local democracy reporting scheme<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
